The extreme spread, or greatest distance between all pairs of impact points on a target, is often used as a rapid measure of dispersion or precision of shot groups on a target. It is therefore desirable to know its statistical properties. Since the exact theoretical distribution has not yet been worked out, this paper examines the accuracy of several approximations which are checked against large sample monte carlo values. We find in particular that for the sample sizes considered the extreme spread can be approximated well by a Chi variate. 相似文献

The applicability of critical path scheduling is limited by the inability of the algorithm to cope with conflicting resource demands. This paper is an assessment of the effectiveness of many of the heuristic extensions to the critical path method which resolve the conflicts that develop between the resources demanded by an activity and those available. These heuristic rules are evaluated on their ability to solve a large multiproject scheduling problem. 相似文献

After the Second World War the Admiralty and shipbuilding industry agreed that the largest possible capacity for warship building should be maintained. This proved impossible as the Royal Navy struggled to evoke a strategy in the nuclear era and the price of increasingly complex vessels rose remorselessly. As the shipbuilding industry wilted in the 1960s in the face of international competition a process of natural selection was followed by increasing political intervention in the industry. Nationalisation in the 1970s aimed to preserve capacity and employment, policy aims which were reversed by privatisation in the 1980s and which, ultimately resulted in an oligopoly in the warship building sector. 相似文献

Henry Patterson 《Small Wars & Insurgencies》2013,24(3):493-517
Using hitherto largely unexplored governmental archives from London and Dublin, this article focuses on the security challenges arising from the existence of the land frontier between the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland and the significance of issues of cross-border security cooperation for Anglo-Irish relations from the beginning of the Troubles until the Anglo-Irish Agreement in 1985. It argues that the relatively safe haven of the Republic was essential to the longevity of the IRA's campaign and that successive Irish governments exploited British security concerns to expand their political influence on Northern Ireland. 相似文献

Abstract The Defence Procurement Executive is the single largest customer of British industry and controls some 127 000 contracts. As Chief of Defence Procurement, Dr McIntosh explains the effects of expanding market forces on defence contracts and the suppliers, before continuing to outline the prospects for future competitive contracts in view of the recent cuts in defence budgets. 相似文献
